Employer engagement requires a considerable shift in emphasis on the part of Work Based Learning providers that have been largely concerned with delivering a set menu of provision to a predetermined timetable on their own premises. Recent LSDA research has suggested that employers have a small number of high level expectations of the service provided by training providers. The following short list of expectations encapsulates what a high quality service from work based learning providers would include. Employers expect:

1. A service in tune with their business needs
2. Training with minimum disruption to work patterns
3. An identified point of contact with knowledge of their business
4. Flexibility of delivery assessment and qualifications
5. High quality delivery and interaction
6. Rapid response to requests and queries
7. Cost effective provision
8. Clear and simple procedures
9. Qualifications designed to meet business needs
