The initial teacher training currently delivered by Barnsley College is aimed at those who teach in the post-compulsory sector. In order that the learners within this sector are more fully engaged on a national basis, it is clear that the initial teacher training received by the sector’s front-line employees must include a more thorough appraisal of and training in the use of ICT in teaching and learning. This is a sector whose customers are often full-time employed or involved in other time-consuming activities such as further study and the potential of e-learning to increase accessibility must be recognised by practitioners.
